6 Clean Skincare Staples for Winter

pregnancy glowing skin - skincare after baby - Northwest Blonde - Seattle style blog

While I’m looking right and left for any hints of spring, we are truly still in the thick of winter (some of you more than others and I feel for you!) Because winter is brutal on skin, hair, mood, I have changed up some of my skincare products to help accommodate the additional dryness brought on by winter chill.

My skin isn’t naturally very dry. It’s generally combination/oily but winter always exacerbates the dryness, leaving patches of dryness and patches of oiliness at the same time. Not cute. I’ve found that adding a lot more moisture to my skin actually helps combat both issues, both the dryness and the oil. I wanted to share my main five skincare products

All the products I mention below are clean skincare products. I’ve been transitioning to clean skincare for over a year now and I’m very happy with the results that I’ve achieved with products that are actually good for me long term. You can read more about my transition to clean skincare here.

Now without further adieu, here are my winter skincare staples

Winter Clean Skincare Staples

BC Resurfacing Peel

In the warmer months, I’m not as diligent with this as I am during the winter. Now that it’s cold and my skin is looking dull and yellow, I’ve been using it once a week and seeing remarkable results.

BC No.3 Balancing Facial Oil

I got a sample of this facial oil around the New Year and I’ve really been liking it. I’ll apply it at night and it’s nicely moisturizing and leaves my skin glowing my the morning.

BC Adaptive Moisture Lotion

This moisturizer has been such help at combating the combination of both dryness and oiliness. It’s made to help your skin regulate its hydration levels throughout the day and that’s exactly what happens. It really helps those dry patches stay hydrated and the oilier areas not overproduce. I only use this moisturizer in the morning and one bottle lasts me about six months.

Honest Body Oil

I can’t say enough good things about this body oil. It’s clean so I don’t have to think about using it on myself or on Teddy. It also instantly deals with my dry and scaly skin. My legs get so dry and this body oil keeps them moisturized for a solid 24 hours. I also love that a little of this goes quite a long way.

First Aid Beauty Intensive Rescue Cream

My hands get so dry in the winter especially around the heels of my hands. I’ve been loving this hand cream because it combats the dryness but doesn’t leave my hands feeling slimy or wet for ages after I apply it. Andrew also uses it regularly since his hands get so dry that the skin on his knuckles will start to split. This seems to help him even though he only uses this cream while he’s at home.

Baby Washcloths

I’ve stopped washing my face with any product in the mornings. I’ll just give it a quick and gentle scrub with a baby washcloth (Thanks for the loan Teddy). I’ll also use the washcloths with my facial cleanser at night. Since I’ve started this new routine, I haven’t had to use any harsh exfoliants since this gently exfoliates a little bit every day.

water, rest, and green vegetables

My skin turned on me over the holidays because my normal diet fell by the wayside with road trips and heavy holiday foods and too many sweets. Such is the way of the holidays and I tried not to stress over it too much. Since I’ve gotten back into my morning green drink habit and in the general routine of life without a holiday party three days a week, it has all cleared back up for me.
