Northwest Winter (and Spring-ish) Essentials - Outerwear

So… Remember that post from Friday. All about Spring and sunshine.

Well, that changed quite dramatically! It has been torrentially raining all weekend. Today is a little better, meaning it only dumps rain for short periods of time with breaks in between. Seriously bi-polar weather. Sun one moment, then a monsoon.

Anyways, with that I thought I would bring you my Northwest Winter (and Spring-ish) Essentials Outerwear

1) Classic Raincoat

This is an obvious choice but I would suggest to try and find one with a tail or in the high-low style. This keeps the rain from dripping down and soaking through the back of your pants.

2) Lightweight down coat

These have become increasingly popular here in the Northwest over the past few seasons. The lightweight down keeps this coat from getting too puffy (or marshmallow syndrome, as I like to call it) but functions great in the cold, rain, and wind; keeping all three at bay

3) Military Inspired Parka

This is a great Northwest staple if you aren’t dealing with the rain factor. These are generally fabric coats (so they aren’t great in the rain) but are made in the parka style. Depending upon the maker, they also come with removable liners which make great transitions into and out of Fall or Spring

Other Favorites that aren’t super popular here in the Northwest but I love (so we will put them down as honorable mentions) include: Classic camel trench coats, Peacoats, and heavyweight puffy down coats!
