On Trend: Neon

Neon was all over the place for spring and it would appear that this spring trend is going to be hanging on throughout the summer! Below are some ideas of how you can wear neon without looking crazy and rock this spring and summer trend on any level.

CLOTHING
While it can be hard and down right scary to wear neon in anything more than an accent, it can be done. Try a bright tee shirt your favorite white or boyfriend jeans (both popular for the summer as well) or loosely tucked into a neutral skirt. The key is to pair your favorite bright statement piece with neutrals everywhere else. This way you still get the bright pop from your chosen neon piece without overwhelming amounts of color everywhere.

JEWELRY
Jewelry is a great way to dip your toe into summer neon brights. Either on your ears or around your neck, neon can add pizzaz to an all black outfit or can take a simple denim look up several notches.

I am particularly in love with this acid fringe necklace (y’all know that I love fringe) and these earrings that come in a couple different colors. Both of these pieces look fun for summer but could also brighten up any simple look all year round, especially the necklace

HANDBAGS
Who doesn’t love a great handbag?! For those of you who need no excuse to get a new bag, this may be the best way for you to rock neon all summer long. Surprisingly, bright bags can be a great way to wear neon even though they look like they may sit in your closet unworn. Try wearing them with a monochrome outfit. All black is a given but royal blue is another great canvas for a bright bag.
I love this Rebecca Minkoff quilted purse that can be worn both cross body or over the shoulder, which also comes in several different bright colors. However if you want to rock brights all the way to the sun and back, check out her mini Tote that is nearly blinding it is so bright! For a more sporty look, you may want to check out the Marc Jacobs ‘Percy’ cross body bag, which also comes in a variety of shades.

SHOES
Shoes are my favorite way to accessorize any outfit. With summer neon, shoes can be a great way to add bright color into your look and still have it be work appropriate (depending upon your profession of course). These J. Crew pumps would go great with a relaxed weekend look of distressed boyfriend jeans and a simple button up (my personal favorite look). However if neon yellow isn’t for you, these Kate Spade kitten heels would be a wonderful alternative that are more wearable for day-to-day plus the shorter heels makes them easier to walk in.
