Tips for Picking the Perfect Swimsuit

Beach Day

palm tree cover up // romper cover up // white beach cover up // hat // neon one piece // striped one piece // sunglasses // floral bikini top // high waisted floral bikini bottoms // off the shoulder bikini top // pink floral bikini bottoms // sandals // high neck bikini top // white and gold bikini bottom

Opposite from popular opinion, there is still time to get your tan on! Stores are filling up with fall merchandise and people are talking about transitioning wardrobes but temperatures are still high and I will be spending many more weekends at the pool.

Enter the problem of swimsuits. Being a beach (or poolside) baby, I have learned a thing or two about swimsuit styles. Personally, I don’t discriminate between classic one pieces or bikinis so teeny and like both styles for what they offer. However, I know that people tend to favor certain styles so I thought I would impart some thoughts on picking the perfect beach piece for you!

1) Black is always chic (and slimming). You’ve heard it time and time again (and there is a reason for that) but black is effortless, chic, and slimming. When in doubt, go with black or darker colors. I love plum and navy as alternatives to black but with the same slimming results.

2) One pieces are making a come back. One pieces are back and it looks like they are sticking around. No longer the frumpy cousin of the bikini, one pieces have been given a makeover and now range from chic and classy to boho or bright. If you have any little imperfections on your tummy (or general torso area), a chic one piece is an easy way to disguise them. I love my one piece because it holds everything in for me on days when I’m feeling bloated or need a little boost of confidence. Add a giant floppy sun hat and you are pool ready vintage Barbie style.

3) Focus on your assets. When everything is on display, why not help draw attention to the areas of your body that you love most. Have a nice bum? Make sure your bikini bottoms include some ruffles. Perfectly toned upper body? An off the shoulder top will flaunt those arms. Whether you add a pop of color or some feminine frills, make sure that your best assets are accented.

4) Mix it up. With bikinis there is often a feeling of needing to wear a matching set. Break it up! Mix and match to your advantage. As noted above, highlight your assets and downplay your imperfections by pairing patterned sets with solid color sets. That way you can have a flashy bright print on your asset and a simple solid color on your imperfection all while getting more wear out of your bikinis.

5) Wear what makes you feel your best. I feel that these lists always need this little positive asterisk  at the end. No matter what a ‘best bikini guide’ in magazines or blogs tell you, always wear what makes you feel your best. If you feel like a babe, you’re already in the perfect piece!

Don’t forget that confidence is your best asset while rocking a swimsuit! I’ve complied a great (in my opinion) selection of suits below in a variety of prices, colors, and styles so check those out to get inspired to suit up before the end of the summer

Choosing swimsuits can be really hard but your best piece of advice is to choose what you’re most comfortable in. I finally started choosing swimsuits that make me feel good about myself and it’s made such a difference.

Yep 100% of the time! People can generally tell when you feel uncomfortable and with so much showing confidence is key. Being comfortable in your own skin and second skin is super important. Thanks for reading Hannah!

I gotta say, I love all kinds of bathing suits! I love cute bikinis but I’m definitely more comfortable in lovely one-pieces (that striped one is so nice!) and I’m a huge fan of those cover-ups! They’re always so nice with a cool print on them, light, and very comfy!
