Fashionista’s Guide to Statement Jewelry

A Fashionista's Guide to Statement jewelry - bracelets - earrings - necklacesNothing says glam like some serious bling. Statement jewelry is a simple and stylish way to dress up any outfit from the simplest jeans and tee to black tie attire. It comes in all forms and price points, so there is no reason every fashionista worth her salt shouldn’t own at least one  piece of statement jewelry. Here’s everything you need to know about the different styles out there!

Earrings

Statement earrings come in three forms: stud, drop, and jacket. Studs are great for those who don’t like a lot of weight on their ears but still want the bling, fashionista’s with small children who love to grab earrings, those with newly pierced ears, or for those who get irritated by the swinging movement of drop earrings. They still pack a glam punch but it a bite sized package.

Drop statement earrings are the, as I like to think of them, original statement piece. Available in every color, shape, or size, these statement earrings will have peoples attention in a flash. They sparkle, they shine, and every little movement catches the light.

Jacket earrings have become more and more popular over the past few years. These are the perfect blend of both stud and drop earring as many of these jacket styles can be worn both ways. These earrings are perfect for anyone looking to either an edgier look to their jewelry or want statement pieces that are slightly more dainty and delicate.

Bracelets

Cuffs, links, and stacking bangles, bracelets also come in statement variety. Cuffs are most often seen in relation with statement jewelry as they are the most versatile type of bracelet that lends itself well to making a statement. Cuffs can be laser cut, embellished, extra wide, or many other variety of styles. They also tend to be the best for those who work on keyboards for hours at a time as well as for those who hate the noise or rattling that often comes hand in hand with wearing bracelets.

Link bracelets tend to be a more flashy statement as they are often seen encrusted with rhinestones or use multi color links. These are great to wear with a watch or other heavier pieces as link bracelets tend to look a bit more feminine than cuffs and therefore can keep a look (or “arm party”) from looking either too masculine or too feminine.

Stacking bracelets can either be very dainty and feminine or make a statement depending on their material and colors. Statement bracelet stacks are generally sold together but are easily made by pairing pieces you already own together for a bright wrist stack. For maximum impact, pair bright colors with different materials and widths for the ultimate statement.

Necklaces

Statement necklaces have been around for a while now and are showing no signs of going anywhere. They come in all shapes and sizes and statement levels. Whether you are a newbie or a long time fan, statement necklaces can look great with just about any look. Jeans and a tee, yes. Over a button-up, yes. Winter, fall, spring, summer, yes. For those looking to wet a toe, try a simple statement necklace like this one that makes a statement without having too much going on. That way you can test out the trend with a variety of looks and see how it suits you.

So the next time you think your weekend casual look is just a bit too blah, test out a piece of statement jewelry to liven up your look.

I am a huge fan of statement necklaces. I feel like my wrists are too tiny for statement bracelets. 🙁
