After the spend, spend, buy craziness of pre-Black Friday, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, I wanted to remind everyone of Giving Tuesday. It’s a huge day for donations to charities during the time of year when food banks, shelters, and all other charities do the most work for the needy in our communities.
I wanted to point out one particular place that will never turn away a family in need and that is Seattle Children’s Hospital. Ranked number six pediatric hospital in the country, Seattle Children’s serves children from Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, covering the largest region of any children’s hospital in the U.S.
A local Seattle radio station is hosting their largest donation drive of the year to help support the Uncompensated Care Fund, which allows Seattle Children’s Hospital to open their doors to any child or adolescent who needs care regardless of the family’s ability to pay. They are $800,000 away from reaching their goal of donating $14 million in 14 years towards the Uncompensated Care Fund and will be hosting a radiothon on December 17th.
However today on Giving Tuesday, you can donate early to help them reach their goal of $800,000 and, more importantly, healthy kids.
I would love to encourage all of you to donate if at all possible. Seattle Children’s is a place close to my heart and we here in the Pacific Northwest are incredibly lucky to have this facility at our fingertips. There are families that fly into Seattle from all around the Western U.S. to bring their children to get treatment from everything from the rarest forms of cancer to neonatology to emergency care. Parents shouldn’t have to worry about paying medical bills when their child is ill and I think that is something everyone can get behind.
If not Seattle Children’s, then please consider donating to a cause close to your heart. Everyone needs a little extra hep this time of year.
