Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Plaid

back to school style checklist

It’s September and in the style world that means fall so we are all excited to be breaking out those plaid pieces! But there can be a fine line between a cute touch of fall pattern and full on lumberjack (trust me, I’m from Seattle and I see this all the time). Here are 4 do’s and don’ts that will always have you looking all kinds of fall cute (and 7 different outfit ideas)!

DO Find new ways to wear plaid

We all have that cozy plaid button up we love but branch out and see if you can new plaid pieces to incorporate into your look. A plaid pencil skirt is a great way to add some fall fashion into your workwear look. Plaid flats is another way to incorporate the print into your style, especially if you live in a warmer climate.

DON’T Add a vest

If you decide to wear a plaid top, leave your vests at home! This is the classic Pacific Northwest male look we are trying to avoid. Instead consider topping your button up with a sweater or blazer to turn you look a little preppy instead of lumberjacky.

DO Practice moderation

Plaid isn’t a print that does well head-to-toe. Pick one piece or percentage of your outfit to highlight with a little plaid. Leave the plaid matching sets for Fashion Week instead of daily wear.

DO accessorize

Plaid is a great print to wear as an accessory (blanket scarves anyone?)! It is an easy way to spice up a basic jeans and tee look with a scarf, shoes, or bag. This is great for those days when it’s still to warm to wear flannel but you still want that fall feel to your look.

    Aninha,

Amei as tuas dicas.
