Easy Holiday Glam Style (Without Freezing to Death)

holiday glam style without being too cold

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s being cold. And this time of year, it becomes quite the balancing act to dress up for all the holiday parties without freezing a toe or two off.

Men have the luxury of wearing layers and still looking handsome as hell (undershirt, button up, sweaters, jacket), while us ladies get the raw end of the deal. It’s all dresses and heels (aka no socks) for us. However I’ve recently embraced two different looks that allow us ladies to have a little more warmth when we’re getting dressed for a holiday party! Keep reading to hear my two new styling not so tricky tricks!

SWEATER AND SKIRT COMBO

The first is a sweater and skirt combo. I’ve worn this combo several times here on Northwest Blonde (here, here, and here for example) because it’s such a great way to still rock a skirt even when the weather isn’t the warmest.

How do you make this combo work? Think about balancing out your look between your top and bottom halves. Think of a flowing skirt paired with a fitted knit on top. The same goest with length. The shorter the skirt, the larger and looser the sweater. And the opposite is also true. Longer skirts tend to look better with a fitted top.

Need more warmth if you’re going to bear some leg? Add tights! It’s an easy add on and you can find some great ones that are fleece lined which I highly recommend.

BUTTON UP UNDER A DRESS

While sleeveless dresses are always a chic feminine option, they are also super unpractical in the winter months.  However adding a layer under said dress, instantly makes your favorite Jackie O number a viable option.

What to layer under your dress without too much bulk, you ask? Why a classic button up of course! You can always pair a classic white button up with anything but if you want a more modern look, try a chambray top instead. Don’t know how to pair a dress with a new layer? I say think about pattern play. If your dress has a pattern on it, keep your under layer simple and solid. If the dress is a solid color, have some fun with a print underneath!

Still need more added warmth? Opt for a cashmere turtleneck sweater instead. These tend to have minimal bulk, even for a knit, but help keep you seriously warm.

Such a perfect look for a holiday party! I’ve never thought about pairing a sweater and skirt together (usually I’m a dress person), but I love it. Usually when I dress up in the winter I try and pair my dresses with a pair of tight – it definitely helps!
