Dreaming of Spring But Dressing for Winter

While the rest of the world is gearing up for spring, it’s still snowing here in Seattle. To say that I’m craving warmer (mid 50s would be fine) weather and some sunshine, is putting it mildly! I mentioned on Twitter that I feel like a fraud talking about spring styles here on Northwest Blonde when it’s already snowed twice this week and I’m not actually wearing any of the spring looks that I’m sharing with you.
Side note: Yes, I actually wear these outfits in my daily life and not just “for the blog”

So rather than talk about the latest trends or wear a fun spring look, I figured I’d share how I put my own advice into action when getting dressed in the morning. If you want to see how I take my own advice (they say it’s harder than dishing it out!), just keep reading!

This is an outfit I wore a couple weekends ago for church and an event afterwards. The thought process for matching up these pieces started with this awesome maxi skirt that I really wanted to wear and encompasses three different style tips/ blog posts that I’ve talked about on here.

The first is wearing a maxi dress in winter. I took the tips from that post and applied them here but adjusting for a maxi skirt rather than dress. I paired this skirt with a tissue turtleneck (I have several pairs of these) that isn’t overly fitted or knit. If I were spending any more time outside, a cashmere turtleneck sweater would have been better (aka warmer).

Second, I played with mixing feminine and edgy style. This mainly involved toning down the feminine aspect of the pleated chiffon maxi skirt by adding a moto jacket rather than a peacoat. I love the movement of a chiffon or chiffon like material. It feels soft and feminine and instantly boosts my mood, which is a must in these final days of winter. However, when it’s a brighter color like my other pleated skirt, the over all look tends to be much more feminine. Adding an element of edginess, plus this skirt’s more neutral color, mixes these two opposite styles.

Finally, I made sure I had plenty of warm layers underneath my spring fabric. Chiffon has the soft feminine movement but none of the warmth needed when flurries are regularly falling. There are plenty of tips and tricks I’ve shared over this winter season about adding the warmth without feeling the bulk.

Are you already gearing up for spring or has Mr.Winter not yet packed his bags in your neck of the woods? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,
