Ramblings of a Tired Woman

J.Crew chiffon pleated skirt

Happy Friday babes! This week has felt never ending and when I realized it was only Tuesday, it really put a kink in the rest of my week. Overall, it’s just been one of those weeks. Regardless, we made it to Friday!

I just wanted to share this outfit and some thoughts with you guys today. I try to be really honest about being a fashionista on a budget and that means repeating items over and over again, hopefully in new and interesting ways. This skirt is just another of those items (see how I wore it this winter here) and you can see just how long I’ve owned this shirt by going back to this gem of a blog post.

However, I’m definitely one who gets caught up in the “comparison game” and being plugged in online and on social media does not help whatsoever! Online you can see all these glamazons who never wear the same shirt twice, always have their hair just so, and a full face of makeup. We rarely get to see behind the screen where in my heart of hearts I know it’s really just sweat pants and tee shirts. (Complete transparency: I’m wearing a fuzzy pink bathrobe, my hair towel, and glasses while I type).

This seems to be a topic of discussion on a lot of people’s minds recently or at least that I’ve noticed in the online world. All the hubbub surrounding the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has made me feel like I’m missing out or somehow inferior because I’m the only person in the world not shopping the sale or at least it feels that way (remember that budget thing I mentioned?). I know I must not be the only one feeling this way (plenty of people have mentioned feeling burnt out over all the promotions going on right now), so if you’re feeling this way too you’re not alone.

But the truth of it all is that we probably don’t need half of what we would have bought anyways. Sure it’s really nice to have something new but we are already blessed to have clothes on our back and probably already have more than we really need (you are reading a fashion blog after all). Instead of feeling down because I’m not getting more, I’ve decided I’m going to purge my closet this weekend and be happy with less. My mom has a saying that doesn’t translate very well into English but the gist is “pass it along so it can serve someone else”

In conclusion, it’s late, it has been a long emotional week, and if you’ve made it through my ramblings this far, thank you. Thank you for reading and commenting and loving fashion as much as I do. We might not have or even need the latest and the greatest item but we can still express our love of fashion, style, high heels, and red lipstick together! Have a super weekend – xo

Sometimes I miss the days when I first started blogging and were weren’t solely obsessed with what is new and trending, but how to remix our old pieces. I know I didn’t bother to post about the Nordstrom sale because 1) Their stuff is expensive, even when it’s on sale and I don’t make a habit of shopping there a lot 2) when every post in my bloglovin feed is telling me to buy the same 20 things I don’t even bother to look 3) it’s the middle of summer and I’m not about to go buying sweaters and boots!

You are not alone. I want to believe there is a place in this internet for budgeting, remixing bloggers to find success.
No one should have to apologize for wearing something last season that is no longer in stock.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this sweet comment! I really appreciate hearing back from you guys and knowing that I’m not alone out here. And I have to say, while I do love some of the things Nordstrom has, talking fall fashion in July just isn’t for me.

  2. Ana I am totally on the same page as you are! It’s hard to focus on your personal style and your existing closet when you regularly compare yourself to other fashionistas on the web. I love how you have revisited these pieces, this look is great! I appreciate your honesty and humble ramblings.

Thanks so much Rachael! I really appreciate your taking the time to leave a comment. I’m sure you’ve felt the same when you share out into the internet and never know what sort of response you’ll be getting in return. You’ve all been more supportive than I ever imagined

I couldn’t agree more and I also try to remind myself that I started blogging not just to push ‘the newest and hottest’ thing 24/7. You always look classic and gorgeous and I agree that a closet cleanout often makes you appreciate what you have even more! I’m going to be in the same boat and doing one myself this weekend! ❤️❤️

Keep doing what you do lady, it’s wonderful.

Thanks so much Rebecca! Going back to look at old blog post has definitely helped change my mindset from “look how far behind I am” to “look how far I’ve come”. Reminding myself why I started and why I continued is something I should do more often.
Hope your closet clean out went well! I know mine resulted in a significant purge!

  5. I agree. While I did shop and post some about the Nordstrom sale, I posted about not going wild with it, and only looking for what rounds out your closet and compliments what you have or getting what you NEED. My blog is about my personal style and how I remix my closet. Some of my favorite bloggers are the ones who wear the same things over and over. Some of the big time bloggers started that way and now that they are big and feature $400 items in every post I just don’t bother reading. While it would be nice to make more money, I don’t even seek sponsored posts because I don’t want to push something every post. Stay true to you, and you will continue to love what you do.

I’m not buying anything from the sale nor have I even looked. I only read a few peoples picks to get some fall inspo that I can find elsewhere second hand or cheaper! You’re not alone lady!
