5 Stylish Shoes for Commuting to Work

Hey babes! I don’t know how many of you are like me but I commute to work. This means I head out the door in the morning to get on a bus, then walk for about 5-10 minutes to my office and repeat this same process in the afternoon. Because I’m on my feet out in the elements, my normal pumps aren’t up to the task (especially in the winter). At the same time, becoming the stereotype of a woman in running shoes and a pencil skirt is not an option. So after some hunting and a couple blisters, I’m rounding up some of my favorite and stylish shoe options for my working gals!

Here are the shoes that you need if you commute into work and want to stay stylish!

Best Shoes for Stylish Commuting

Wedges

If you’re a high heel kind of gal, like me, wedges are a must for your commuter style. They are the easiest to walk in and also do well for long days on your feet. Even in the colder months, you can find wedge ankle boots like these.

Block heel

Even the sturdiest pair of stiletto heels will be eaten up by the city streets within days but block heels can withstand walking/racking up the miles. They also give you more support while standing and walking than your typical half inch diameter stiletto heels. Plus they are better for your back if that’s something you think about.

pointed toe flats

Pointed toe flats are a staple in the Business Casual Capsule Wardrobe but are also great commuting shoes. They elongate the leg without the teetering heights of heels. I think it’s pretty safe to say most of us commuters can run to the bus in a pair of flats. Bonus, you probably already own a pair or more of these versatile shoes.

ankle boots

Ankle boots are another staple shoe in the Business Casual Capsule Wardrobe and are also great commuting shoes! They generally have a shorter heel block heel (got to love a two-for-one), which makes them excellent for walking and being on your feet. They are also must haves for days when the weather doesn’t allow open toe shoes.

foldable travel flats

I’m not normally a huge fan of flats with rounded toes but a pair of these are a must for in of your bag or to keep at your desk. Just in case you do need to give your feet a break midday or will be swapping into heels for that big meeting (#powershoes), these flats are compact enough for travel, extra comfortable, and still a great option for the office.

Other Tips and Tricks for Picking Your Best Commuting Shoes

Tip #1

If you’re planning on wearing a new pair of shoes Monday morning, make sure you take the time to break them in over the weekend. Nothing adds to your case of the Mondays like a bunch of new blisters. Even if you do break them in, I’d recommend packing a couple band-aids in your bag just in case. You never know how a pair of shoes is going to feel after an 8 or 9 hour day.

Tip #2

Don’t go crazy with high heels if you need to actually walk or move around much throughout the day. 3 inches is the maximum that most people can pull off and still function and that is pushing it for most commuters.
