Revisiting My Spring Wardrobe

summer work capsule wardrobe - business casual summer - what to wear to work in the summer

Here in Seattle we are (finally) getting some spring weather so I’ve been slowly breaking out my warm weather clothes. While I’m not a huge advocate of having two completely separate wardrobes, there are some pieces that I simply can’t wear during the winter months living this far north. So this past week when I pulled some of my spring and summer clothes out of storage, it was like discovering a whole new wardrobe I get to play with.

Today I wanted to revisit some of the pieces that I’ve worn on here before and explain why I’m excited to re-wear them. I don’t think we talk about re-wearing our clothes enough but that is real life for 99% of us. Just keep reading to revisit my spring wardrobe with me!

DENIM SKIRTS

I feel that a denim skirt whether mini, pencil, distressed, and everything in between is a wardrobe staple. Not only that but it feels very American, like the rest of blue jeans culture. This is a skirt I wear with all types of shoes, from flats to sandals to heels, and all sorts of tops. I can’t wait to pair this skirt with a super crisp white button up that’s knotted in the front and red shoes.

SUMMER PRINTS

Fun summer prints add a little liveliness to any work outfit. This lemon print dress was a Zara find that can be office worthy with a blouse underneath and heels but also is perfect for the weekends with heels and a denim jacket.

EASY FLORAL PRINTS

Something about floral print dresses in the warmer months just makes getting dressed so much easier. Like this Shop Stevie number, it’s a no-brainer to toss on this dress with minimal accessories and just let the bold print do the talking. Again, this is another one that I love to wear both to work during the week but also for my Sunday best over the weekend.

EYELET

If you’ve been a longtime reader, you know it’s summer when I start wearing this eyelet midi skirt on repeat. Something about this fabric just screams summertime and is the perfect feminine print. Pair it with pastels for an all over feminine look but it also plays well with bolder prints like stripes and polka dots for a little pattern mixing.

WRAP DRESSES

Another oh-so-easy grab-and-go option is the wrap dress. While I tend to not wear them to the office (it’s a little too much skin in my opinion), I love these for spring and summer weekends and evenings. They are so easy and very breezy plus almost always come in a fun seasonal print. Two-for-one win!

PASTELS

Although I tend to wear pastels all year long (#rebelchild), there’s just something about pastels in springtime. Just like florals for spring (“how original” – Miranda Priestly), the overall feeling of rebirth this time of year encourages us all to layer on our favorite pastel pinks, blues, greens, and purples. Maybe it’s the influence of seeing all the fresh blooms and the Easter bunny coming just around the corner.

LITTLE WHITE DRESS

Another option that gets to be front and center all summer long is the little white dress (LWD). A little white dress swoops in to take over from it’s LBD counterpart for all your summer dress needs. From the office to backyard BBQs and picnics, this dress will have you looking feminine and stylish all summer long. Who doesn’t love a great summer dress that you just slip into and instantly look like you’ve put in a bunch of effort?

WHITE DENIM

While I’ve had my issues with white denim in the past, I’ve since opened my heart and my wardrobe to white jeans. This spring and summer I plan to embrace this summer classic more than I have in the past.

What are you excited to start wearing again? Do you need to open up your spring wardrobe or can you wear yours all year long? Let me know in the commets!

Until next time,
