How to Make S’mores on the Grill

how to make s'mores on the grill - how to make s'mores without a fire

Just a few weeks ago, I went to a BBQ at my friend Jenn’s house to celebrate the summer solstice. After Jenn provided an impressive spread of summer staples like salad, sangria, chips, burgers, and all the fixings, she brought out a tray of marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate to make s’mores. She told us how, while we didn’t have a fire going, we could still make s’mores just on the grill.

Now, this was news to me as I had only ever made s’mores over a campfire.  Well, my eyes have been opened to a whole new world where, dangerously, s’mores can be an everyday food group as long as we have a grill up and running.

Just keep reading to learn how to make s’mores on the grill.

HOW TO MAKE S’MORES ON THE GRILL

You’ll want:

  • heavy duty foil (or just double layer regular foil)
  • your favorite chocolate ( we used Theo’s dark chocolate)
  • marshmallows
  • graham crackers

Start by cutting a square of foil about double the size of your graham cracker square. If you don’t have heavy-duty foil, you can just double up on regular foil.

Assemble your s’mores making sure that the chocolate is on the bottom that will be closer to the fire in the grill.

Wrap the foil around your s’more leaving some space at the above and around it so the marshmallow doesn’t come into too much contact with the foil. That will leave you with a sticky mess.

With your grill up and running on a low-med setting, place your wrapped s’mores bundle in a spot with indirect heat. Placing your bundle directly over the flames will result in burning your graham cracker.

After 5 minutes, start checking on your s’mores. Does the chocolate look melted? Is the marshmallow starting to give when you press on the top?

Once your chocolate has melted, remove your foil bundle from the heat and carefully open up the foil and remove your s’more. The graham cracker may have softened so you can always add a second layer of cracker to the bottom if you want additional crunch.
