The Truth About Seattle Beaches

swim cover up - seattle beach day

Alright, here’s something a lot of people don’t know about Seattle. Sure we’re known for a lot of rain but we also have fantastic summers. Sunny and 70-75 degrees from July to September, it’s pretty great.

We also have beaches in almost every neighborhood (it comes with the territory of being a seafaring town), which I’ve mentioned on here plenty of times. My husband and I regularly spend evenings after work on our neighborhood beach. However, nobody ever gets in the water.  You’d like to think “great beaches, fun swimming” but you’d get hypothermia pretty quickly since the water stays at a balmy 55-57 degrees and drops into the 40’s in the winter. Sounds like a great swim, right?

For that reason, swim gear and beach wear don’t really have a place in my life. Nights at the beach generally involve a pair of shorts and a shirt, like the one I’m wearing here, or a heavy sweater depending on the season. Never a swimsuit or cute cover-ups. It’s just way too cold most of the time.

Now you know some of our funky little Seattle secrets. What about where you live? Let me know in the comments!

  1. 75 minutes drive for me to go to the beach … Belgium does not have a big coast and it’s pretty crowded but there are still some locations with a lot of charm so it’s where we usually go 😉 And you can swim during summer 😉 Happy Monday xx

  2. Super cute outfit! And Seattle summers sound like perfection to me! I don’t like when it gets over 70 degrees! Where I live in the very northern reaches of New York State (on the northeastern corner of Lake Ontario), we like say that we have two seasons: Winter and July. Many summers remain quite mild…like last summer, I think we only had about 10 days all summer where temperatures reached slightly into the 80’s. It was perfect, in my opinion. However, this summer we have had too many days in the 90’s and that is just too hot for me. But it will be Fall weather around here in just a few weeks! I have never been to Seattle but I suspect I would love it there!

I love going down to the beach in outfits like this. It’s just as fun to hang out as it is to sun/swim
