The Secret’s Out | NWBlonde Baby

Whelp, the secret’s out guys. The Northwest Blonde crew will be getting a new member come February 2019. My husband Andrew and I are excited (and a little terrified) of this new journey that we are about to embark on. I’m over the halfway mark in my pregnancy and the main question I’ve been getting is “why didn’t you share earlier?” So today I thought I’d give you guys a little insight.

Why I Waited to Break the News About My Pregnancy

When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to wait longer than the standard 12 weeks. I know it seems counter-intuitive considering I have a blog but I’m a very private person and don’t actually share a great deal of my personal life here on the internet. Even my circle of friends, boss, and coworkers didn’t know until I was in the second trimester so don’t feel too put out with me.

Why not share earlier? Well, I have a handful of reasons.

First off, it really opens up your life to criticism from strangers. I know that every pregnancy is different but at the same time, people have really strong feelings when it comes to how you should handle yours. From the well-meaning advice to hearing the horror stories (why do people feel the need to share EVERYTHING that went wrong when you say you’re pregnant?), I wasn’t ready to deal with it all.

Second, I didn’t even feel pregnant. Sure I had some symptoms but other than that, I didn’t have any belly or anything to show for months. I’m also a really mellow person so I couldn’t even muster any peppy excitement when sharing the news with people (plus I was basically a zombie for the first four months but that can wait for another post).

Third, I didn’t want my pregnancy to drag on for months virtually for you guys. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, or it may just be my age cohort but A LOT of bloggers are pregnant right now. I don’t know what was in the water in April-May but it was catching. I still wanted to take care of you guys and make sure that you had plenty of style content without it all being maternity related. In the past when my favorite bloggers went through their pregnancies, I missed getting style inspiration from them that related to my non-pregnant life and I don’t want that to happen for you all. At this point, I’m wearing maternity clothes but I’ll make sure to link non-maternity options for you guys in each post.

Well, that is basically it when it comes to why I waited to share this news with you all. If you are interested in more personal content, please let me know and I’ll work on sharing more with you. It will force me out of my comfort zone but I’m more than happy to do that for you guys.

And on a final note to all of you who have been reading this blog for a while now, thank you! Thank you for being a part of this crazy thing we call life. Some of you were reading my ramblings and following since I was in college, then were with me when I was entering the working world, then getting married, and now as I enter motherhood. Thank you for all your support and comments throughout the years. I don’t take enough time to share just how much I appreciate you and everything you do for me and NWBlonde just by coming and reading.

  4. Congratulations! Of course we like reading about you, that being said I strongly feel that mama’s/women shouldn’t have to justify their reasons for things such as these (that’s not a criticism, I loved the post). I am wishing you all the best in the world and your experience is just that, YOURS (and your husbands). 🙂
