Well I’m officially in my third trimester of this pregnancy and so it’s time for a little recap of my second trimester. I haven’t been posting a lot of maternity content on here as I’m not certain you would actually want to see that but these Pregnancy Recaps are a nice way for me to look back and remember this time in my life (this blog did start as a personal journal after all).

Second Trimester Recap

Some Complications

My second trimester started off with some complications. Many of you don’t know this but I had thyroid cancer in my early 20’s which resulted in surgery to remove half of my thyroid. Since then, I’ve had problems regulating my thyroid hormone. Well pregnancy didn’t help that situation. At one of my doctor appointment blood draws, my thyroid hormone was through the roof. Luckily my doctor is fantastic and was on the watch for things like this so it was a fairly easy “fix”. I’ve been taking hormone regulating medication since and that has helped

dry skin and hair

I noticed that my skin and hair DRIED OUT during my second trimester. I’ve always had oily skin and then all of a sudden I noticed that my skin needed way more moisture than it ever had before. Like a lot more.

I’ve swapped out some of my skincare which has helped my skin stop peeling and stay moisturized all day long. I also only wash my hair twice a week now where as before I’d wash my hair every other day. This is one change that I don’t mind too much.

embracing maternity pants

I finally gave into maternity pants when I started my second trimester. I don’t know why I resisted for so long. Maternity pants and leggings are so much more comfortable than trying to squeeze into my regular jeans. They, my regular jeans, were really waving the white flag by this point.

While they are comfortable, maternity jeans are also the worst. Imagine a pair of jeans, cut the waistband off, and that’s what you have with maternity jeans. I’ve yet to find a pair that actually stay up for longer than five minutes. I have had good luck with these dress pants for work though.

Actually Looking Pregnant

I really started showing around week 17-18. Before this point I just had a swollen/pudgy look around my middle. This also happened to be around the same time I left for two weeks in Europe so when I came back to work my co-workers didn’t know what hit me as I came back from vacation looking VERY pregnant (they didn’t know I was pregnant before I left). It was kinda funny.

Baby Size

So it looks like I’m having a big baby. So big to the point that my doctor is considering moving up my due date. She’s keeping my “official due date” but because of the size of this kid and according to my ultrasounds, it’s looking like I might have an unofficial due date about two weeks earlier than the official date. I guess that’s just what happens when your husband is 6’4” and you’re only 5’5”. There just isn’t enough torso space.

That’s a little summary of what’s been going on over the past three months. I’m in month 7 now and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. February seems really far off, after the holidays, in the new year but when I look at a calendar I have a minor attack at just how little time is left of this pregnancy.
