J.Crew Regent Blazer Review

J.Crew Regent blazer review - best camel colored blazer for women - Northwest Blonde - Seattle style blog

J.Crew Regent Blazer // similar cricket sweater // Abercrombie & Fitch skinny jeans (my favorite jeans since having a baby. They are high waisted and hold everything in really nicely. They come in three different inseam lengths and only cost me $40. They are true winners) // Madewell ankle boots (just a classic fall staple however I recommend going at least half a size up is you are going to wear them with socks.) // Amazon sunglasses (These are the best $10 sunglasses out there. They look a lot like these Karen Walker shades) // similar tote bag

Today I wanted to review a wardrobe staple that I’ve been getting a lot more use out of this year. It’s the J.Crew Regent blazer and it’s a sleeker, modern, slightly more feminine take on a classic blazer but I’m loving it for all those reasons and more. It’s very much a piece that I know I’ll be wearing for years to come.

Let’s get into it!

WHY IT’S WORTH IT

The main reason to invest, and yes, it’s an investment, in a classic piece like the Regent blazer from J.Crew is that it will last you the rest of your life. You will never need another blazer unless you want one in a different color. It’s cut in a manner that can be both casual or formal depending on how you style it. As in, it’s technically part of suiting on J.Crew’s website but the models are wearing it along with jeans. I really do feel as though this blazer was specifically designed to fit multiple molds and needs that a blazer would normally serve.

I think that saving up and spending a little bit more on wardrobe staples like this Regent blazer is worth the effort as you won’t have to replace them and you can get away with having only the one, especially if your daily life doesn’t require a formal dress code. Think quality over quantity.  You can have one really great blazer that fits well, looks chic and gets plenty of love rather than several ill-fitting unworn pieces.

FIT & SIZING

Overall the Regent blazer fits TTS. However it is cut on the narrow side so if you are broad-shouldered or just like a little a roomier fit, I’d recommend going up a size. As far as available sizes, the Regent is available from size 00 all the way up to a size 24. It also comes in all three lengths – classic, petite, and tall.

My sizing notes for reference: I’m 5’5″ and around 140lbs. I have a standard pear shape frame. I generally wear size 27 or 28 in jeans, 4 or 6 in dresses, and medium in tops.

PRICE

The Regent blazer retails for $198. Yeah, I know it’s a lot. But I wanted to put this blazer on your radar now because if you’re planning on investing in your wardrobe this holiday season, you might be able to snag this blazer on sale. While it’s not always included in sales, it’s worth keeping an eye out during these big sales that will be happening in the upcoming weeks. And 30% or 40% savings can shave a  good chunk off the price.

CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES

Like I said above, the J.Crew Regent is an expensive blazer. Not crazy top of the line designer but $200 isn’t pocket change so I get it if you’re like “Ana Luiza, this is great and all but I’m NEVER going to spend that kind of money on a blazer.” I knew about this blazer for years before I actually took the plunge and purchased it (secondhand…) So I get it and I wanted to let you know about another really great alternative that’s a fraction of the price, the School Boy Blazer from J.Crew Factory.

I own both of these blazers and they aren’t identical by any means. The Regent is made with much higher quality materials and is more fitted and sleeker design. But the School Boy blazer is still a good quality alternative. Especially if you’re just building up your professional wardrobe, this is a fantastic buy for the price. Plus they regularly release it in fun seasonal colors like the Blackwatch plaid one that I own.

If you’re interested in the School Boy blazer, here is a quick run-down of some things to know. It runs TTS and is more a classic standard fit than the Regent blazer. I own it in a size 6 and it’s a comfortable fit on my standard frame and I still have room to wear a light sweater underneath. The School Boy blazer comes in the same size range but only classic and petite height. If you want a better look at what the School Boy blazer looks like on, I have a review of it here.
