Our first post from Montana! If you missed Friday’s post, Teddy and I have decamped from Seattle and will be spending the rest of the month with my in-laws in Montana. This gives us the opportunity to have a little more freedom than we did in Seattle. For example, playgrounds are still closed in most of Seattle but are open here (I’ve only been going in the mornings with Ted so there aren’t other kids around just to be safe).
But since we have so much freedom and free time all of a sudden, I’ve made a list of things to do in the area that would be suitable for a toddler. One of the items on that list was berry picking. I actually was planning on doing back in Seattle but then I found Whitefish Stage Organic Farms here in Montana.
Whitefish Stage Organic Farm is an organic farm (duh) with u-pick strawberries and raspberries in the summer, then a corn maze and pumpkin patch in the fall. They posted that raspberries were ripe and ready to be picked on their Facebook page on August 1st so I wanted to make this one of our first stops before they were all gone.
When we first arrived, I thought that it was going to be a dud. Nobody was around and the strawberry patches I could see were all completely grown over with tall grass and weeds. Well after some investigating on the part of my mother-in-law, we found the berry fields up a hill and on the other side of a field.
Once we finally found the raspberries and got to picking, it really was a great little outing. Ted snacked his little heart out while we picked. There might have been some snacking on my part as well. After about an hour or less, I have a pretty large box full and my mother-in-law also had an equal quantity. There’s no accounting for how much Ted ate but I’d gauge it for somewhere around the same amount too.
If you come with slightly older kids, there is a farmhouse-style playground that looked like a bunch of fun. Ted’s a bit too young and little still but I can see us coming back to do this again in the future and that playground will be a hit!
This week I’m planning on taking Teddy to Glacier National Park (the main attraction for the region), to a couple of local beaches, and to the farmer’s market in Whitefish. It should be a pretty fun time
