The Easiest Way to Re-Wear Your Favorite Dresses

the easiest way to re-wear a dress as a skirt

Today I wanted to share my quickest styling trick to stretch my wardrobe a little bit. It starts with a guilty little secret. I wear my dresses as skirts all the time.

It’s the easiest and fastest way to get a few more options out of your wardrobe without going out and buying the same number of skirts as you have dresses. Especially since here in Seattle it’s not the warmest, it’s not always practical to own a bunch of spring and summer clothes. This way you get a little more for your money, without looking like you wore the same outfit twice (because that’s simply not acceptable!)

So how’s it done?

It’s super easy. All you need is to add a button up. Yep, that’s about it.
I like to wear a button up chambray or patterned shirt on top on my dress and for a fresh spring feel, leave the bottom two buttons undone and tie a knot at the base. This does two things. The first is that it gives you a defined waistline that may be covered up by the added layer. The second is that it hides the hem of your shirt.

Still too chilly for just a dress? (or is that just here in Seattle?) You can always add a sweater on top for that extra preppy collared look. I’m all about that life so you know I’m doing it 😉

How to you stretch out your wardrobe? Are you a culprit of the dress-as-skirt style hack as I am? Let me know in the comments!

    Dear Ana Luiza,
Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog. I was so happy to find out that we have so many things in common. That’s exactly what I wanted – to find like minded people.
I’m so in love with your classic feminine style. Your outfits always have that extra something that makes them so special and happy. I’ll definitely try your tip with the button down over the dress the next time I’m standing in front of my closet, bored from my clothes and don’t know what to wear.
    Let’s keep in touch 🙂
    Best, Sally

I do love this trick, it’s a great way to remix a dress, which lets face it, can sometimes be a challenge! Plus you get extra wear out of your sleeveless dresses!

That’s exactly why I do this trick! It’s never all that warm here so we have to get creative to be able to get more wear out of summer clothes. So glad you liked it!
