My Everyday Shoes

madewell loafers - everyday shoes for fall - preppy outfit idea - Northwest Blonde - Seattle style blog 2

Over the past several weeks, I’ve caught myself wearing the same shoes over and over again so I figured I should write about them. And guess what? They’re loafers, shocking I know. 😉

I’ve had a love affair with loafers ever since I was a kid and only wore penny loafers for about a year (or until my favorite pair fell apart. Whichever came first.) Now that they have come back into style, I’ve gone all-in again with my love for them. I have any number of pairs and go through cycles of wearing them.

Lately, I’ve been wearing my Madewell Frances loafers over and over and over again. I noticed that I was wearing them a lot then once I started keeping track I realized it was way more than I actually thought. Like 5 out fo 7 days.

Why I Love (and Wear) them so much

The long and short of it is that they are comfortable and they look good with almost everything in my day to day wardrobe.
Brown loafers instantly match my brown tote bag. Loafers make me feel dressed up when I’m cleaning up after a baby all day long. They make me feel like I’ve got my life together even though I’m wearing the same outfit several days in a row. Who doesn’t need that kind of support in their lives?

Ok let’s get more into the nitty-gritty details of the Madewell Frances loafers.

Sizing and Fit

I own the Frances loafer in 7.5. I used to be between sizes (7 and 7.5) but since having Teddy, my feet are a true 7.5.

At first, I’d say that they ran on the narrow side but now that I’ve worn them for a year they are loosening up a bit more. They just seem a little bit wider than before and you can kind of see in the pictures that they are gapping a bit around the arch of my feet. It’s nothing that bothers me but it seems like a new development since I’ve been wearing them more often.

The Break-In Process

Personally I found these loafers very easy to break-in. Granted it was a year ago but I think I had maybe one day with minor discomfort at the end of the workday. Since then I can wear them all day without any problems. If I’m going to be doing a lot of walking in them, I’ll slip into a pair of sock liners midday and it doesn’t cause me any problems.
That was my strategy when we were in Victoria, BC over Labor Day weekend and ended up walking almost 10 miles in a day.

Where to Buy Them

You can obviously find these loafers at Madewell but you can also snag a pair at Nordstrom and Shopbop.
They come in a bunch of different colors and patterns but not all these retailers carry all the color options.
I think that Shopbop only carries them in black, mahogany, and white. Nordstrom carries all the colors except white and leopard print (hello blush pink!) And Madewell is the only place where I’ve found the leopard print and snakeskin print versions.

These also come in mule format if you want the comfort and convenience of slides (or live in a dry climate) however I can’t speak to how those wear.
