The Best Home Workouts for During Covid-19 Quarantine

at home workouts during covid-19 quarantine

Going to the gym and working out is an integral part of my daily life. It’s not only part of my fitness routine but it’s also where I see my friends and I get two Teddy free hours.

I have been trying to continue my normal workouts during this quarantine because it’s such a help for my mental health. As soon as gyms around the country started closing, I noticed an immediate uptick in the number of online workouts that became available. The fitness industry really has stepped up to make the best of the situation we find ourselves in. If you’re interested in getting a good at-home workout, here are some stand out resources.

The Best At-Home Workouts for Quarantine

Instagram Lives

Instagram Live was the first place that I saw a huge number of fitness professionals starting to offer live classes. All you need is access to Instagram. The downside, these workouts are only available for 24 hours. Basically every fitness professional, club, or studio is currently offering virtual classes via Instagram Live. If you have a favorite, make sure to check their Instagram for class times. Here are some that I’ve been doing

High Fitness on Youtube (and Zoom)

I love High Fitness and I’ve shared a little bit about it on here before. They have one playlist available on Youtube that you can stream whenever you like. They are also live-streaming some classes and you can register for those here. Local High Fitness instructors are also offering classes via Zoom. My friend Emily is offering her classes for $1. You can get more information about her classes here.

QuaRUNtine Half Marathon

That same friend Emily is also hosting a virtual half marathon on May 23rd. She’s taking everyone step-by-step through the entire training plan, which includes all the different runs and milage you need plus all the recovery and cross-training. It just started this Monday (3/30) so there is still time to join us. Running is a great way to get outside and strengthen both your body and your mind. You can read about my past half marathon experience here

Fitness Apps that offer Free Trials

There are a bunch of fitness apps and streaming services that also offer great at-home workout. Below are some of the most popular ones that offer free trials. Several of these services have extended their free trial offers given the current state of events and I’ve tried to include as much information as I could find.

Personally, I’ve tried the Sweat App (I actually have the PDF version from years ago) and it’s a great system that will get you sweating and stronger. I’m also experimenting with SweatNET which brings local studios into your home as a streaming service.

  • Peloton App 90-day free trial
  • PVolve 30-day free trial (no credit card needed, use code: OnePvolve) then $20/month
  • Obe Fitness 14-day free trial then $27/month
  • Sweat App 14-day free trial then $20/month
  • SweatNET is giving away a 30 day free trial with code: STREAMFREE then $10/month
  • Barre3 is giving a 15-day free trial then $29/month

Workout Gear

As far as weights, I have these hand weights that are 8lbs each. I know that most retailers have recently seen a surge in demand for weights so you can easily make your own at home if needed. I use jars of salsa as my light weights and jugs of laundry detergent if I need something heavier. Bottles of wine, canned goods, milk jugs, and small children or pets also work as weights

If you need some new gear to help you get started, below I’m sharing some of my favorite workout leggings and tops. I have full and in-depth reviews of the Old Navy leggings that I love here plus some more info and options in the following blog posts.
