An Afternoon at the Mukilteo Lighthouse

This simple skort outfit idea is great because you don’t look like you just came from a workout. You get the best of wear a skort without the total athletic look. This simple summer outfit is perfect for moms who need to bend and run after their kids. #athleisureoutfit #athleisure

J.Crew Shirt (seriously one of my most worn items. At least once a week. I wear a size medium for a looser fit) // 32 Degree Skort (I love these! So comfortable, perfect for moms, and POCKETS! I’m wearing a size small) // Adidas Superstar Sneakers // $10 Sunglasses // Target Headband (a great $10 spent and it doesn’t squeeze my head at all) // Teddy’s Polo // Teddy’s Shorts // Teddy’s Native Shoes (I’ve heard about these from just about every mom and finally got Teddy a pair)

Five months and counting of quarantine have been taking a toll on the Teds and I can just tell that he’s bored with our house and my company. So for the past month or so, I’ve been trying to find little outings so Ted and I can get out of the house. I finally just wrote out a ‘Seattle Summer bucket list’ with a bunch of activities we can do.

Last week we decided to skip nap time and head to the Mukilteo Lighthouse. This is a beach, park, lighthouse, ferry terminal, and dive site all in one. Andrew comes pretty regularly for scuba diving but I’ve never been before so we packed up the car and headed out for the afternoon.

The Mukilteo Lighthouse is about 30 minutes north of Seattle and makes for a fun little outing. Normally the lighthouse would be open to the public but is temporarily closed due to Covid-19. On the other side of the historical lighthouse is a stretch of beach that is open to the public. You can walk along the water or stick to the paved path. There are picnic tables, shelters, and a giant new playground – all wrapped in caution tape. Sigh.

After looking around the lighthouse grounds we just walked along the paved section to where it ends. And that’s when the magic happened. Hidden from view are train tracks and a Burlington Northern freight train went by right as we got to the end of the path. Can you say jackpot! This was possibly the best moment of Teddy’s entire week. The kid loves watching trains. Aunty Lindsay gave him a boost and the kid had a front-row seat for the entire long long length of the train. Also, the conductor saw us just basking in the greatness of the train and waved at Ted. He was is seventh heaven.

As for me, this has become my typical summer mom uniform. Skort, stripe tee, and sneakers.

32 Degree Skort

If you saw this post last month, you’ll know that I’m really into skorts right now. It’s comfortable plus POCKETS! And mainly I can run after Teddy without fear of flashing anything. Oh and I don’t care if it gets insanely dirty. Honestly, it’s the best athleisure thing to ever happen to me. I’ve been researching more and OMG this one from Vineyard Vines is so stinking cute! Sadly sold out in my size but I love knowing that something that functional and stylish exists in the world.

J.Crew Stripe Tee

This is probably one of my most worn shirts. I have the size medium for a slightly looser fit. It’s lightweight enough that I don’t sweat in it even on warmer (70s) Seattle days. Because of that it’s also great for layering under a sweater blazer or cardigan for fall and spring.

Adidas Superstar Sneakers

Somewhere along the line, these came back into fashion and I’ve been wearing them a lot. Not here on the blog but if you look at my LiketoKnow.it, I did a decent job documenting my outfits for the past couple of months and you’ll see these sneakers there pretty frequently. I actually used to wear these back in middle school and I remember feeling so cool when I had my Superstars then. Maybe I love them so much now simply because of that nostalgia.

Target Headband

It is so hard to find a headband that doesn’t squeeze my brains out. Apparently I have a big head but this $10 headband from Target is honestly one of the few that doesn’t give me a headache within the hour. I wear it all the time in an effort to look like I did my hair.
