6 Podcasts I Binged This Summer

I’m old school with my corded headphones, I know!

This summer I listened to an unholy amount of podcasts. For whatever reason, music just wasn’t cutting it for me and I wanted to learn about things and hear stories in an audio format. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t reading as much? Maybe it’s because I had a lot of long car rides and road trips? Regardless, I have a bunch of new podcasts to share with you.

If you haven’t already, you can read about some of my favorites podcasts here. You can also see your reader suggestions in this post.

6 Bingable Podcasts

Rabbit Hole

All about how people are radicalized on the Internet. This podcast focuses more specifically on Youtube but they also speak generally about all social media platforms. It would tie in really well if you have recently watched the Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma”

Winds of Change

They try to discover is the song “Winds of Change” by the Scorpions was actually written by the CIA. It takes you back to the Cold War and all the different ways the CIA was trying to get Western culture past the Iron Curtain to bring down the Soviets. It’s fun if you’re interested in history, spying, and rock & roll.

Dolly Parton’s America

This was just such a feel-good podcast. I wasn’t a huge Dolly fan before but I was by the time that I had finished this podcast. It’s a 9 part series of stories and interviews with Dolly herself that left me smiling after each episode. Andrew did start complaining about all the Dolly music I was playing for a while there.

The Catch and Kill Podcast

The podcast that accompanies the book Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow. Ronan Farrow is the journalist who exposed Harvey Weinstein and got the #MeToo movement onto the front page of newspapers. Since I wasn’t really interested in reading the book, I listened to this podcast instead. It’s actually really great if you want a more superficial look at everything that happened with reporting on Harvey Weinstein leading up to this story breaking. It can be hard to listen to at times because they discuss sexual assault.

The Michelle Obama Podcast

After much marketing and hype, the Michelle Obama podcasts launched in August. Unsurprisingly, it’s pretty good. I like the episodes where she talks about her personal history because I don’t know much about her past except that she’s from the southside of Chicago. She also lifts the curtain and shares about life as First Lady throughout. I love hearing these sorts of behind the scenes stories.

The Dream – Season 2

The Dream is back with another season and it’s good. Maybe not quite to the level of season 1 (all about MLMs) but this time they tackle the “wellness industry.” From Goop to magnetic healing sessions to essential oils, they cover quite a broad range of topics since the wellness category is so vast.

Lean with Plants

This one is all about vegan weight loss. I discovered Chelsea Mae Cullen on Youtube randomly (I rarely watch Youtube these days) and then went to her Instagram only to find out that she has a podcast. So however you digest content best, she’s got you! In a nutshell, she talks a lot about calorie density and how to use it for weight loss. It’s all super digestible length too, which I appreciate.
