Back to School with McLaren

back to school essentials - McLaren scooter - scooter giveaway - preschool packing list

Ted is starting school in a few weeks! This little baby is now big enough to go to school. That sound you hear is me both crying and laughing at the same time. How is it possible that I’m a mother to a school-aged child?!

Last week I did his back-to-school shopping and had such a fun time picking out everything that he will need for the new school year. Backpack? Check. Lunch box? Check. Markers? Check. Even his mode of transportation, courtesy of his McLaren scooter, check!

Since he’s going to preschool in our neighborhood, he’ll be able to ride his scooter to and from school without too much trouble. He’s so excited that we’ve been doing some practice rides around the neighborhood so I can start timing how long this endeavor might take in the mornings 😬 On second thought, maybe we’ll stick to afternoon rides home.

McLaren has graciously given me one scooter to giveaway to one of you so that your little one can also scoot to school (or just around the neighborhood) this fall! Please enter below by following both me and McLaren Scooter on Instagram. The Rafflecopter below will allow me to collect your email so that the winner can be contacted. Giveaway ends August 31st at midnight.

Back to (Pre)School Checklist

school supplies

The obvious must-have for school is all the new school supplies. Markers, crayons, pencils, and glue were all included on Ted’s back-to-school list provided by his classroom teacher. I remember loving all my shiny new school supplies and trying to keep them looking nice for as long as I could. This year to keep things easy, I did all of Teddy’s back-to-school shopping on Walmart.com. They had everything on his school supply list and they could deliver to our doorstep, which has become a godsend to modern moms.

backpack

Next, you’ll need something to carry all the school supplies. Ted has this shark backpack from SkipHop, one of my favorite baby brands. It’s big enough to hold his day-to-day school supplies and his lunch box without being too heavy for him.

lunchbox

Keep hunger away with lunch and snacks in a fun lunchbox. I got a bento-style lunchbox for Ted because he’s a snacker but there are hundreds of options. Cartoon characters, monogram, insulated, stainless steel, which will you pick?

waterbottle

Along with a lunchbox, make sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated! And just like lunchboxes, there are so many options to choose from. I like these ones by Nalgene because there is no straw or small pieces to clean and they are nearly indestructible.

personalized labels

Much like I remember from my school days, EVERYTHING must be labeled! That’s where these personalized labels come into play. You can go the printed route which can be so cute but Avery also makes a simple washer/dryer safe label that you can write in the name yourself and are SUPER affordable.

Bike or Scooter (& helmet)

Kids have to get to school somehow and walking or driving doesn’t always have to be the answer, especially if you live near their school. Get them a balance bike or scooter if you live within walking distance of their school and get a little exercise together every day. Don’t forget your helmet!
